Reconstruction
Do you dread holidays, swimming or sandal season?
Are your nails affecting your self-esteem?
Are you ready to stop worrying about how your nails look?
If you answered YES to any of these questions, then you’ve found the right page; toenail reconstruction is for you!
What can we achieve with toenail reconstruction?
We can use a toenail reconstruction for both aesthetic and medical purposes.
Most frequently, clients are looking to make their damaged nails look better, but that isn’t all we can do!
Often, we use reconstruction cosmetically to improve the appearance of nails damaged by trauma (usually caused by sport or running) or by fungal nail infections.
We can use pedisafe to create preventative overlays for nails that have split to allow the nail to grow out.
We can also use reconstruction to realign and encourage straight growth of curved nails.
Pedisafe is also a powerful tool in managing ingrown toenails. We can use it to create a brace, to pack and lift the nail to encourage the nail to grow out after removal of the offending nail spike.
Had a ingrown nail permanently removed? Unhappy with how it looks? No problem! If you’ve had a partial removal, we can carry out a toenail reconstruction to even out the appearance of your nail. Had it all removed? No worries! We can build you a prosthetic nail! Prosthetic nails can be fixed to your nail bed using a skin safe glue whenever your nails are on show!
How does it differ from extensions performed by nail techs?
As Foot Health Practitioners, we are trained and insured to work on damaged (or dystrophic) nails, which are outside of the scope of nail technicians’ training and insurance.
While we’re aiming to create an aesthetically pleasing look, we’re also concerned with the health of your nail. For example, our reconstructions can be combined with anti-fungal treatments or used to help rectify ingrown and involuted nails.
We choose our products with the health of your toenails in mind and do not use products designed for fingernails to build your reconstruction. The specialist product that we use, Pedisafe, was created specifically for this purpose, with the health of your toenail in mind.
We use an aseptic application technique. What does that mean?
It means that we will use disposable brushes to apply your reconstruction and any gel polish. Any other instruments that we use have been through our gold standard, 3 step sterilisation process. We take cross contamination seriously and never double-dip; you’ll notice that we decant the amount of Pedisafe and polish that we need so that we do not need to dip a used brush into our pots and risk contaminating the product.
Why Pedisafe?
The simple answer? Because it’s the best.
Pedisafe is a specialist product, created specifically for toenail reconstructions, by Canadian company Fanair Cosmetiques.
Why is that important?
It’s important because your toenails exist in a completely different environment to your fingernails; they spend most of their time in dark, warm, moist environments (shoes and socks), that are perfect breeding grounds for fungus and bacteria, with a great deal of pressure exerted on them (from standing/walking/running). Products such as Acrylic, Polygel and plastic tips are made for your fingernails, so haven’t been developed with these factors in mind.
Unlike products designed for fingernails, Pedisafe’s formula includes powerful antimicrobial and antifungal agents. It’s also created with flexibility in mind to ensure that it doesn’t damage your nail when forces are exerted on it through the course of your day.
How do you do it?
In your first consultation, we’ll undertake all preperation work and dicuss a treatment plan with you. This will likely include removing all damaged and/or unattached/loose nail and providing you with an antifungal to use between this and your recontruction appointment.
At your reconstruction appointment, we’ll build you a new nail based on your lifestyle and shape preference.
We’ll build your nail(s) from a number of layers of Pedisafe connect+ and modelling+ to build you a nail that looks natural and will be flexible to fit your lifestyle.
Building your new nail is completely painless and should last you 6-8 weeks, depending on your lifestyle.
